It all started with a vision about creating a place what is an extension of my way of living.
Doing everything I like, creating new things and doing this with passion and true craftsmanship

The basic interior is all found an collected in the years I was creating the shop during day dreaming. It took a couple of years to get everything together, i started collecting stuff from 2011.

During travelling around the world I picked up things from everywhere with the idea of opening my own dream shop one day.

The feeling and atmosphere what I felt everywhere in the world during travelling was one importing thing that I really wanted to create in THE GARAGE 39.

Where can you better be then drinken a perfect coffee/latte art at a nice bar looking at custom bikes, surfboards, great haircuts and all combined with a unique vibe.

People from all around will always connect with each other sitting and having a drink together. For us at THE GARAGE 39 it feels good to see costumers connecting with each other and share there ideas or help each other out.

The name The Garage 39
Was there allready since I started cutting hair at the age of 14 years old. Joost learned himself the first parts of this old craftsmanship. Cutting friends and family in the garage of his parents. After a year he could be an apprentice in a oldschool barbershop to really learn what he was actually trying at that very moment.

After years of experience in several shops in The Netherlands. Joost had a different goal, educate more people the craft of barbering. During the startup of Barberschool Amsterdam he was involved as the creative director. It grows out to be the biggest recognised Barberschool in Holland.

During these years he got world wide recognition and started working for big world wide brands as global director for Esquire Grooming, Farouk chi bio silk for three years. After this Wella international and national signed him as brand ambassador for Sebman.

This brought him doing world wide presentations and shows for 50 till 3000 people.

He still believing that everything he did was a unstoppable way of showing his passion and joy of creating hairstyles with understandable technically substantiations

He was and still is doing haircuts with the same idea and happiness he started as a kid in the garage of his parents where the base of al the adventures started.

So the name The Garage 39 is a true name for who he is and where he came from.

The 39 is a special part it’s a ode to my biggest inspiration and biggest friend my grandfather who always told me that he as a true cabinet maker that would make the whole interior when Joost was ready to open his shop. Unfortunately His grandfather passed away before he could open the doors of The Garage 39.

The number 3 is a special number between joost an his grandfather. As well in numerology the three stands for:
Creativity, expression, artistic, adventurous, spontaneous. It’s in balance, inspiring and social. All things you will need to find back when walking into THE GARAGE 39.

By only turning this one 3 upside down I got the housenumber of my barbershop. So it’s an ode and it’s a designation for where the shop is.
